Amazon is rolling out updates to its product title policy, effective January 21, 2025.

These changes aim to streamline listings, making shopping easier for customers while improving seller compliance.

Another Amazon change – why you may wonder…

They comment that product titles have become cluttered with unnecessary characters and repetitive words.

This creates confusion and reduces customer trust.

The updated policy focuses on making titles clearer and more concise.

    Key Policy Updates

    Character Limit:
Most categories: Maximum of 200 characters, including spaces.
Recommended: Keep titles under 80 characters for better visibility on mobile devices.

    Restricted Special Characters:
    Prohibited: Symbols like !, $, ?, _, {, }, ^, ¬, and ¦, unless part of the brand name.
Limited Use: Characters such as ~, #, <, >, and * are allowed only for specific cases (e.g., measurements or identifiers).

    No Redundancy:
A single word can’t appear more than twice in a title (except prepositions, conjunctions, and articles).

    Best Practices for Crafting Titles

A great product title can boost discoverability and conversions. Follow these tips to create effective titles:

Structure – use this order for titles:
    Brand Name > Flavor/Style > Product Type > Key Attribute > Color > Size/Pack Count > Model Number
Example: The Famous Company Men’s Hoodie, Black (Pack of 2)

    Avoid Clutter:
Skip redundant details, synonyms, or unnecessary keywords.

    Capitalization and Formatting:
Capitalize the first letter of each word (except prepositions, articles, and conjunctions).
Use numerals instead of words for numbers.
Don’t include promotional phrases like “hot item” or “best seller.”

Variation Titles: Only have the size or color mentioned in the relevant variation.
Parent title: The Famous Company Short Sleeved Shirt
Child title: The Famous Company Short Sleeved Shirt, White, Small
